By Bike

More and more Ghent is becoming a very bike-friendly city. There are many locations in the city where you can rent a bike. Have a look here if you want more information. Your destination is the street “Proeftuinstraat”, close to the bridge over the E17 highway. Go to the end of the street, following the road (don’t take a sharp right 100 m after you enter the street, that will lead you to the waste disposal center). To enter the Proeftuinstraat, you’ll need to cross the very busy Corneel Heymanslaan. Please cross this road at the designated crossroad close to the bus stop.

By Air

The main Belgian airport is located at Brussels ( airport code: BRU). All major carriers serve Brussels airport. From the airport you can travel easily by train. Check your train schedule here. The train station at the airport is at level -1, and is called BRUSSEL-NAT-LUCHTHAVEN. It will take you about one hour to get to GENT-SINT-PIETERS. You could of course also grab a taxi, it will take about an hour as well and cost you a lot. Do not take a taxi during rush hours as traffic jams are inevitable then (between 7.00-9.30 and 16.30-19.30).

If your supervisor ran out of money you could also take a budget carrier like Ryanair which flies to Brussels-South/Charleroi (CRL). From the airport take Bus A to the train station CHARLEROI-SUD.

By Train

From any train station, you can take the train to GENT-SINT-PIETERS. Look here for your schedule. From the train station you can grab a taxi or take a bus (more information on where to find the right bus, see below).

By Bus

Unfortunately, there are not too many busses that stop close to the INW. The nearest bus stop is close to the ramp of the E17 bridge, around 400 m from the INW buildings. You can search for your own bus of course (website of the bus company). The stop you need is “Proeftuinstraat”. Bus lines that currently (2019) stop there have the numbers 6, 19, 65 and 67. Most of them will have the direction “Arteveldepark” on display. Make sure you have the one in the right direction! When in doubt: ask your bus driver.

At the stop, you’ll need to be on the East side of the road, “Eastman” is a large company on that side of the road. Continue walking up North in the Proeftuinstraat. Don’t take a sharp right after a couple of hundreds of meters. You’ll get to the INW at the end of the road.
